GOU QI ZI (枸杞子)

Lycii Fructus (枸杞子) is the dried ripe fruit of Lycium barbarum L., family Solanaceae.

Other name  Gouqizi (Chinese Name), Barbary Wolfberry Fruit

 

Macroscopic character

Subfusiform or ellipsoid. External red or

dark red, sarcocarp fleshy, soft and

viscous, Seeds 20-50, subreniform, flat.

Odor, slight; taste, sweet.

Important cultivation area
Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Xinjiang, Gansu and Qinghai provinces.

Processing method
Hot-air dried and eliminate fruit stalks; or dried in the shade until peel is shrunk, dry in the sun and eliminate fruit stalk.

 

Traditional Chinese Medicine action
Sweet; neutral. Enter liver and kidney channels. Nourish liver and kidney, replenish jing to improve vision.
