External TCM Diseases and Pathologies / Scope of Treatment
External medical conditions refer to diseases that occur on or affect the external parts of the body. These conditions are often visible to the naked eye, have identifiable physical forms, and typically require treatment using external herbal remedies. Common conditions include abscesses, pus-filled infections, dermatological diseases, anorectal disorders, diseases related to the male and female reproductive organs, chest conditions, superficial vascular disorders, skin tags, lumps or masses, as well as diseases of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and throat. Other examples include burns, scalds, and conditions caused by venomous insects.
Since external diseases cover a wide range of conditions and patients' physical constitutions vary, the treatment approach must be tailored to each individual's pathology. This includes the selection of appropriate herbal formulas based on the patient's condition, along with lifestyle adjustments following the principles of Yangsheng (nourishing life) to support and enhance the effectiveness of treatment.
