Paeoniae Radix Alba (白芍) is the dried root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall., familyRanunculaceae.
Other name Baishao (Chinese name), White Peony Root
Macroscopic character
Cylindrical, straight or slightly curved, both ends truncated. External white or pale brownish-red, glossy and smooth or with longitudinal wrinkles and fibrous roots scars. Texture hard, not easily broken. Odor, slight; taste, slightly bitter and sour.
Important cultivation area
East Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, Henan and Sichuan provinces.
Processing method
Wash clean, soak in water until thoroughly soften, cut transversely or obliquely into thin slices and dry.
